The Main motorway north is the A1d which connects with the A1. The A1 passes Rome to the East.
Take the A24 or Via Tiburtina out to Tivoli.
Via Appia Antica is the old Roman Road (almost undisturbed in places) that also has many of the Catacombs.
Ciampino is much closer than Fiumicino, but is badly serviced by Public Transportation.
